Not far from the rock is a hollow depression in the land. Some years ago, a local resident, asked permission from the present owner, to dig the stones from the rock, and fill up the hollow with them, but Derwin would not allow anyone to interfere with the place.
A big white-thorn tree which stood at one end of this hollow was thrown by a storm last Spring. - About seventy years ago, the parish priest of Forgney, was coming to hold a station at a house in the neighborhood of St Patrick's well. He came on horseback. When he reached the house he complained of a very severe pain in his back. He was advised to go to St Patrick's well, which he did. He bathed his back in the water and was fully cured.
