  1. The people used to make boots for themselves. They used to tan the skin of animals by burying it for three weeks and then take it up and hang it out on the ditch for about a week until it would get hard and then they cut soles out of tea chests, the way that it would bend and not break. Then they sowed the upper on to it, that they made out of the skin. This was done about 100 yrs ago.
