- Dan Farrell of Lanesboro' used to own a forge all his life in Lanesboro'. Mrs McGuinness now owns it. James Farrell of Gorteen has a forge. There are two forges in use at the present time one in Rathcline the smith is Mr Pat Rooney and one in Lanesboro' the smith is James Murray. Mr Pat Rooney's forge is at a crossroads. A forge is all black inside. It has a slated roof. Forges have doors the shape of a horseshoe. There is also a horseshoe on the door as a sign it is a forge and it is also for luck. The implements, he uses is the hammer, anvil, pincers, file, and sledge. The blacksmith shoes asses and horses. In years gone by they used to shoes cows as there were no trains to take cattle(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
