- There is an old road going from Gibbon's in Clonfower to the head of Rapparee Hill lane. It was used about 80 years ago for the people to go to market. They used to get down out of their carts and walk the lane to warm themselves. The carts would go round the long way and the other men would be waiting for them at the lane. They would have their fowl and oats in the carts. The road is not used now but there is a family named Donnelly and they stopped it and made a pasture of it and have cattle grazing on it now. The side of the road was covred with whins and they are to be had yet. It is said(continues on next page)
