  1. There are many stories told of the battle of Ballinamuck. One of them is this:-
    there were two men reaping corn in a field, and the woman of the house came out to help them and she brought with her a baby and left it in the side of the field. The two men heard terrible booming of guns across the bog. They went over and took part in the battle. After some time a man came and asked the woman where the two men were gone to. She said "they heard noise across the bog and went over". When he heard that he shot the woman, then
