- Among the kinds of bread made long ago were -: boxty, potato-cake and oat-meal bread.
Boxty was made from raw potatoes, grated, mixed with flour and salt and baked on a pan.
Potato-cake was made from boiled bruised potatoes mixed with flour and cut in four quarters and baked on a pan.
Oat meal bread is made from oat-meal mixed with hot water and sometimes there is a handful of flour mixed in. It is then made into a cake and baked on a griddle.- Collector

- Bread was not used much long ago except on certain occasions.
Oat-meal bread, potato-bread and boxty bread were the breads eaten mostly by the common people.
Oat-meal bread was made of oat-meal mixed with water and sometimes salt and flour were added. It was then baked on a griddle near the fire.
