    in this district believe that if it rains on this day that it will rain some every day for forty days so that the people be very discouraged if it rains on this day. The first Sunday of Lent is called Puss Sunday because any young girl over 25 years of age is supposed to have a puss or downcast appearance on this day because Lent came in and she did not get married before that.
    St Martins Day the 11th November. Every woman or man who has charge of a house is supposed to kill a fowl on this day and sprinkle the blood in the four corners of the house or there will be bad luck in the home during the year. This is a story I heard about an old couple who lived in this district a long time, about 50 years ago. Two or three Wags (jolly fellows) used to ramble frequently in their house and when St. Martin's Day came they asked the old couple if they killed any fowl
