  1. Long ago people ate only three meals every day. In the morning they went out to work sometimes before daylight and they worked until they were called to eat their breakfast of stirabout and buttermilk. At their dinner they ate potatoes and salt and also in the evenings.
    Long ago on fast days the people ate gruel. They put down a pot of water to boil. Then they got some vessel and put oaten meal into it and cold water. They mixed it well and when the pot of water came to a boil they out in the cold water and oaten meal and left it there boiling for a long time. When they were eating it the put no milk on it only a piece of butter or some sugar
