- In Ireland the cuckoos, woodcocks, and swallows migrate. The cuckoo goes to sleep in some unknown place in the month of August. They come back and sing on the 20th of April. The wood-cocks go to Norway their own country when Winter is settling in. They come back in the month of November. The swallows go to a hot climate in the month of October. The come back in the month of April. here is a rhyme connected with the sleeping birds.
The bee, the bat, the butterfly,
The owl, the hawk, the sparrow,
The corn crake put out his beak,
And bid them all "good morra".
