- A man named Jackie Yorke who lived in Clowncawfield in this parish used to tell what he called "Wonders" Here is one.
I was cobbling one day and I heard the screech of wild geese. So as not to lose time I just got the gun and fired up the chimney. Down dropped two geese out on the Heart-stone. About ten minutes afterwards I was still cobbling away and I facing the door, what should I see running by but a big hare. Out of a thought I fired the ball of wax I had in my hand at hare and what do you think but it stuck to her forehead. Off she ran and a few seconds I heard a squeal. I ran and what do you think happened. Another hare was running round the gable of the house and ran right in to the first one. I declare to me sins that if she did not get stuck on the ball of wax on the other ones forehead and there they were stuck together when I got them. I said I was'nt to badly off when I had two geese and two hares without stirring from the house.- Collector
