- Long ago the people went barefoot till they were done going to school which was about sixteen years and some went in their bare-feet till they were twenty. I never heard any one who never wore any boots. Children nowadays go in their bare-feet in the Summer and they ware boots in the Winter. The water that children wash their feet in is thrown out.
As a rule in this locality the people repair their own boots. They are taught to sow in their youth. There are no shoemakers in this District. Long ago there was a shoemaker in every townsland. Clogs were made and are worn, up to the present day. There is no leather made in our district. About a hundred years ago the people killed animals and put their skins around their feet for cover.- Collector
