  1. "Before Lent and Advent marriages generally take place. The old people say it is unlucky to get married on a Saturday. It was a great custom long ago, to go to the houses match-making. The groom would bring another man with him and have a bottle of whiskey to treat the girl's father. The fortune is made if the girl is pleased and then the day is fixed for the marriage."
