- 1. There should be an uneven number of candles lit at a wake. (usually three or five)
2. Snuff passed round at wake and everyone takes a pinch. Save some of the "Wake snuff" it cures a headache.
3. Clay pipes and tobacco are given to the men at a wake. Even if a man does not smoke he should light the pipe and "take a pull" it is unlucky not to do so
4. You should not leave a corpse house, until someone comes in to take your place.
5. No cat or dog should be allowed into the room where a corpse is.
