  1. Once upon a time there lived in Granard an innocent boy. He had to pass a grave-yard on his way from his work. One time when he was coming home it was dark, and two men had it made up to frighten him. One of the men put a sheet around him and when the boy came as far as the graveyard, he walked across the road in front of him. He thought the boy would be frightened, but he wasn't, he only laughed and clapped his hands and said for the white man to run or the black one would catch him. So the man with the sheet about him looked round and saw a big tall black man behind him. He followed the man, who was frightening the boy, to his own door and when the man went
