- Local Cures.1. In former times the people of out district got rid of warts on their hands by means of a snail. They rubbed the snail on the warts, then bury it and after nine days they would take the snail up again. If it had rotted at the end of the nine days the warts would also rot away.2. When anyone had a violent toothache, a knitting needle was reddened and was put down in the hole of the tooth. This always deadened the terrible pain.3. Dock - leaves were put on nettle stings.4. Bread - Soda was applied to scalds.
