    THE GOLDEN STAR ROCK contd.

"The waves were very strong and they could not see the rocks with froth
A wave struck her side on to a rock out from the shore, which caused her to break up.
At dawn a man from the district came on the scene, but all her crew were lost.
He saw one man in the water, who spoke to him, but he could not hear what he said,"

    SANDEEL BAY
Limestone begins here. Flagstones for floors or sewers are got here. All along the shore from Petit's Bay to Sandeel Bay is shallow and is very good fishing ground for lobsters, crabs, and pollock. The Slade men generally fish this ground. Fishing pollock by rod from the shore is also done here, as well as in Slade and Churchtown. Long rigid rods are used, with patent "eels", thorgans, or goathair flies (Hook disguised by bunch of goathair to resemble live thing)
