  1. Out on the Taghmon road is an old forge. It is still working. Pat Murphy was the man who worked in the forge in the time of the '98 Rebellion. On March the sixth 1798 a meeting was to be held. One of the people around the place betrayed them to the English for a couple of pounds.
The day before the meeting, one of the Irish spies found out about the English plan. He told his captain and he gave orders for the men to lie in ambush for the English.
This done he saw that Murphy was still working in the forge. He asked Murphy why he was not hiding. Murphy said it would be better for them if he kept on working. After a long argument they agreed to let him keep on working.
