On the banks of the Slaney near Killurin there was a place for saying mass, in the Penal Days. It was a little rock among the reeds. It was called Greystone rock. The priest was saying mass one morning and the men who were watching outside saw the Red-coats coming. They told the priest. He ran to the road which was near the river. He went as far as Macmine and he got a boat and sailed towards. But at Edermine there ws a shot fired and the boat sank.
