- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)rubbed some shiny stuff over them and turned the band on them. They were then "new" for another year. There was a cap-maker who made those lovely white frills that the old women wore round their heads and tied under their chins with nice bows of ribbon. They also wore a spotless check or gingham apron, and a nice home-spun lincey skirt with three or four rows of braid round the tail. They were fit to grace a palace.
The old men wore their white flannell jackets knotted in front, when working, and a corduroy trousers. They wore straw hats in Summer and a soft felt caubeen [in Winter] or Jem Browne as they were in later years called(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
