- One St. Martin's Day a band of Wexford fishermen went out to fish. They were told not to go out but the heeded not this. About thirty boats went out, all of whom belonged to the town. After some time the sea became rough and the fishermen saw a man riding a white horse coming towards them, the horse seemed to be walking on the waves. This man told them to go back but none only one boat went back. Soon after this a great storm arose, and the fishermen lost hope. Upwards of seventy men were lost, and none were saved only those that went back. For years after that terrible disaster the fishermen never went to sea on St. Martins Day. Then after some years Rev. J. Roche blessed the harbour and permission was given to them to go out.
