  1. In '98 this village was really the capital of the Shelmalier country and the people were thrifty and peace loving until they were roused by the savage treatment of the yoes.
    Here were some of the many men from the district who fought in '98
    General and Fr Philip Roche from Garrylough, Captain Thomas Dixon and his wife Madge, Esmonde Kyan, Andy Rossitor and Humphrey Murphy from Ardcavan.
    The weapons used when fighting were pikes which were made in the local forges
