- In olden times boots were not very plentiful and they were only worn by young men and women. The children had to go barefooted all the year round, this is seldom done now but some children wear no boots in the fine weather in the Summer.
In olden times brogues and pumps were made in the district, pumps were a kind of shoes worn cut low down in the uppers.
