    In 1922 there was a big ambush and several Republicans were shot in a field in Crory by the Free State Soldiers.
    The field was right opposite where I used to live and I could see the three crosses which mark the spot, from our gate.
    It is said that a light is often seen in this field. It must be an unlucky place because a few years ago a man killed a girl in Crory land just where the ambush was.
    He murdered her in the middle of the day. The postman found her on his midday rounds.
    It is also said that years ago a man who had eaten beans burst in this same lane.
    So many queer things happened here it is said to be haunted and no one likes to come down the lane after dark or late at night especially since the murder.
    The ' Bracket Stone' lane in the district is a famous place for the tinkers when they
