    A sty on the eye was cured by pulling a thorn from a gooseberry bush touching the sty nine times saying 'in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
    Asses milk was said to be a sure cure for consumption of the lungs, and long ago this was used here in this district by old women who advised the sick people. People who suffer from rheumatic pains always carry a few horsechestnuts in their pockets they believed this dept the pain away, and it did too. I have a greataunt who always carries them.
    Chopped broom was given to horses suffering from worms. St Brigit's Well in this district is visited by people suffering from sore eyes or bad sight. Many charms or herbs are used to cure diseases in the district.
    An herb called "Penitery of the Wall" which grows on walls near water, is used to cure disease of the kidneys.
