There are many words used here in connection with buying and sellig for instance "Boot" meant something given with the article or animal sold. If two persons swapped asses etc. they might give 10/= along with the ass. This they called "boot".
This custom here is mostly carried on when dealing with the tinkers.
To get goods on "tick" means not to pay for them at the time they are got, this is a common term used hee and to get goods on "score" means the same thing.
To give "earnest" on an animal or article when wishing to buy it means a small sum given by the purchaser to the owner as a token of good faith that he will finish the deal.
When an animal or article is purchased the seller always gives a little money back to the buyer as a token of good luck, this is called "luck-penny".(continues on next page)- Collector
