    from the family who lives in this townsland. There were always noted for great hospitality, giving great feasts and card-games.

    The Local Landlord.
    The local landlord was Robert Chapeland Carew, 4th Baron Carew.
    He planted hundreds of acres upon the ruins of tiny homesteads. The family is supposed to have been in the district since the time of Cromwell.
    It is said that they were good landlords and that they protected priest in the Penal Days. There is a tradition that they were originally brogue makers. There were some cases of evictions and plantings. There were planter tenants. Some of the evicted people lived in the surrounding districts. There were many small farms in the district up to the time
