- Pedlars still come round this way. They sell laces, tie-pins, studs, ring for fingers etc. A couple of people come round with ponies and cows. They buy things from the people such as bottles, rags, cloth, feathers, rabbit skins, horse hair and jam jars.
- When the people get things on credit they are said to be getting it on tick, or on the long finger.
