- In the year 1904 and in the month of February there was a very heavy storm which started about eleven o'clock in the night. Everyone's hay and straw were blown miles away. A large horse stable the property Mr. Birmingham, Ballycommon, Daingean, was left roofless. The slates of the stable were blown everywhere and the horse broke out and galloped through the fields. A house of Mr. Flynns was also damaged. The thatch was blown off and some of the wall was blown down. In the year 1932 there was a very heavy thunder storm and a lot of cattle and sheep were killed. There were seven sheep of Mr. Odlum's killed by lightning. Six cattle of Mrs. Brackens were killed by lightning. The year of the Big Wind 1839 the Grand Canal was dry and several people corn was blown into it.
