- On Cromwell
Oliver Cromwell on his way to Birr noticed Ballycowan castle in the distance and ordered his men to fire at it with a canon ball from Glaskill hill and they did so, and knocked down portion of it. As he went on farther he came to ballyboy church and ordered his men to stable the horses in it for the night.
