- At the bottom of a hill under a stone in Offaly about eight miles form Birr and in the Parish of Eglish a treasure is supposed to be hidden. This hill is called the "hill of gold." On three occasions attempts have been made by people of the district to unearth it, but they have failed. It is said there is a life to he lost at the taking of it.
This hidden treasure is supposed to be gold in an old fashioned pot buried two feet deep in the earth and covered by a flat stone.
No buried treasure has ever been found in my district before.
