  2. Thatching of houses is still carried on in this district exactly in the same way as it was in olden times. The rafters which roofed the houses of long ago were rough branches with the bark on them and some thimes they were not very straight.
    The collar ties were fixed on the rafters with long wooden pegs driven in holes in the collar-tie and rafter. Nowadays, sawn timber and nails are used for that purpose.
