No friendly smile or welcome hand to greet a lone exile,
My heart is left behind me in that land across the sea,
By the woods and dales and winding vales around sweet Kinnitty.Ten weary years have come and gone since last I bade adieu,
To that green land that gave me birth and friends so kind and true,
Still well I knew that parting day a last farewell would be,

She now lies in the old churchyard close by my parents side,
Strange faces dwell round the hearth that once was home to me,

This world with all it's pleasure gay can grant me no relief,
