Offaly in the year 571 A.D.St. Barrind or Barrindens was abbot of Drumcullen, parish of Kinnitty in the year 590 A.D.Kinnitty Abbey was raided by the Danes in the year 839 A.D. Colcú, abbot of Kinnitty, died in the year 844 A.D.Coleman Abbot of Kinnitty was slain in Magh Ailbe in Co. Carlow in 908 A.D.Coleman was Chief Brehon of Ireland i.e. Lord Chief Justice.Kinnitty, Birr and Lorrha Castles were destroyed by O'Brien of Ara in the year 1209 A.D.The English restored those last three castles in 1213 A.D.
