- Mostly during Shrove people used to get married. In the country houses, matches are mostly made. In the winter when the weather is cold and the people are around the fire matches are mostly made. Money is seldom given or a dowry though must farmers give stock. About seventeen years ago during the trouble in Ireland a marriage took place in the bride's house at Crinkle, Birr.
