- There are some fairy forts in this district and some are called raths and others rings. The rings are circular in shaped but the raths are not. There is a rath in Fleury's Moor and it is believed around the town that as a man was crossing by that way one night he heard fairies dancing and singing in the rath. He saw fairies dancing in a fairy ring quite near the rath. It is supposed that the man went into the rath and was never seen again.Collected by Noel Delaney, Townsend St, Birr. From: Mrs Gallagher, Burke's Hill, Birr.
