- On the road from this district to Newtownbarry and at a gap in the Blackstairs range there is a place called the "Nine Stones".
This place is marked by nine flat stones supposed to be placed over the grave of each of nine highwaymen buried there. There is a local legend which says that if any one of these stones is seen out of place by any traveller he is bound to replace it in its proper position. If he does not do so it follows on and [] hits him on the legs.- Collector
