- 31.1.'38There is a fort in Bornafea. It is of a round shape surrounded with trees and bushes. People say they were built by the Danes and are now inhabited by fairies, and in some of these forts lights are seen and in others music or singing is heard. There is also one in Revanagh and it is surrounded with a nice little hedge and some sallies around it. People do not cut the bushes as it is supposed to be unlucky. They say the fairies are sure to punish in some way people who interfere with these raths. There is a very historic fort in Leighlinbridge called Dinn Righ or the fort of Ballyknocken. Long ago the king's of Leinster dwelt there. Cobthach was the last king that dwelt there. He killed his father and brother so that he himself would be king but he did not kill Labraith the mariner as he was dumb. But one day as he Labraith was playing with some of his companions, he tried to talk and the strings of his tongue loosened and he began to speak. Crafting the(continues on next page)
