  2. Old Crafts

    Mr Patrick Hanlon Grangeford in Parish of Rathoe made the first agricultural plough in 1882. This was known as the Hanlon Plough. It consisted of a wooden beam about 16 feet long 8 inches wide and 5 inches deep. The wheels were made of wood shod with iron and were something smaller than donkey-cart wheels. The other parts of the plough were manufactured by Howard Manufactures in England. The first man to follow the plough was Marks Byrne. William Curran served him with other fittings for the plough.
