  1. The bread that the people used to eat in olden times in this district was Potato Cake and Oatenmeal Bread. The Oatenmeal Bread was made from oats. The flour in this district at Moone Mills at Castledermot and Shackeltons in Carlow. The Oatenmeal Bread was made from oats. and Potato Cake was made from Potatoe's mashed They used to bake the bread every day. They used water in the kneading of it. The bread was baked on a griddle It was called griddle bread.
