    And the slight-i-est of a whip from a youth
    It would make her jump off of the ground.
    4.) But the owner not wishing to ill-treat the garron
    That faithfully served him for twenty-five year
    Glad to meet with John Byrne who cheerfully bought her
    At a rasonable price though not very dear.
    5). The bargain was made and the money was paid
    As a matter of course John was handed the luck,
    To a tavern they went where a trifle they spent
    And Johnny, the mare from the owner he took.
    6). He put on the saddle across where the straddle
    Had rested for years on the old garron's back
    And he mounted her quick drew a lump of a stick
    Saying 'hee up' Mary Anne as he hit her a whack.
    7). Through the streets she went prancing & at other times dancing
    Till a whole band of lads gathered round by her side
    Saying Hallo Mr. So & So and who let you up
    Or plaze will you get down just to see how you ride.
    8). They kept up the jeer till the mare lost her temper
    And suddenly swerved at the end of the street
    And to the delight of the merry bystanders
