- There are not many toys now made by boys in this district. Boys sometimes make "men" out of a turnip. At first they get a turnip and cut the middle out of it. Then they cut the shape of a man out of it.They also make tops. At first they get a spool and they pare it down until there is a point on it. Then they put a nail out through it and it does as a top.Girls make dolls from rags, sewn together and filled with bran or sawdust.
