- (continued from previous page)years of age. There were a few people who never wore boots at all but now they begin to wear them when they start to walk. About three years ago there was a bootmaker stopping near here and he never wore a boot in winter or in summer. There are a lot of children now who do not wear boots in the summer but there are also some poor children who have to go without boots in the winter
Long ago travellers used to go around and stop for a few months every where they went to make clogs. They were called Cloggers. They used to make the clogs out of alder wood which they got in the bogs. It is only about twenty years ago since they were around last. The clogs are worn still around here but the people that wear them say it is very hard to walk in clay or snow with them because the clay and snow stick to them.
There was no leather made around near here the nearest tanneries to here were New Ross and Athy. The people long ago used also wear sandals in the summer the sandals were only tied around the foot with a lace.- Collector
