- Local Ruins
There is a ruined castle
in this district. It has been
derelict for at least two hundred
years. It is situated in Stump if the
Castle, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow and
it is in the barony of Ballinacor.
There are two caves in Stump
wood, and it is said locally that
when the castle was attacked, the
people inside escaping used to go
along ran underground passage and
come out in the caves. More people
say that one of the caves lead
into an underground tunnel to
Avondale. There is a ruined church
about a mile away in Kilcommon
graveyard.
It is said that a workman
looked out of the castle window(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
