Farmers put palm up in the stable, cow house and pig sty to bring a blessing on the stock.Holy Water
On 1st May they sprinkled the flocks and crops with Easter Holy Water.
On 1st May they used strike the cattle with a quicken gad when putting them out of the house after the Winter. - The Old Graveyards
There are three old graveyards not too far from Aughrim.
Two are in Macreddin- about 2 1/2 miles from the village.
The lower one is the nearer. It is in off the road from which a field divides it. this must be a very old one but there is no church.
In the upper graveyard stands the old church of the parish which was the one used until the new one was(continues on next page)- Collector
