- In Summer travelling folk are very numerous in the locality. It is very seldom that the same tramps come back. Some of these tramps are tinsmiths. They make tin cans basins and porringers, then they bring them round the locality and sell them. Sometimes they have pictures, jugs and other fancy thing too numerous to mention.
They also go around begging flour, meal, potatoes and other farm. production, indeed they are never welcome.
The longest time they stay is about three days. Sometimes the police have to be got to get them away as they cause a lot of disturbance.
It is mostly in families that travel. People think that they don't give their right names. But these are some of the names they Dohertys, Clerys McDonenns, Smiths, Brown's McGinleys and Weirs. The Dohertys were ass dealers who come to every fair in the year in this locality.- Collector
