    The Pagan Fortress of Crossreagh
    - about one mile from Cavan Town. Supposed to contain the remains o f a Lugh fortress and a smaller dwelling. An ancient road runs from here to (?)
    An old tale of the Cuchulain Cycle of an attack on Crossreagh by the Fir Monach.
    After St. Patrick's coming, it became a religious centre.
    The old town of Aghateeduff stood not far from here.
    Here, tradition says, the people had a cure for the ague. This is supposed to be it: -
    Once ounce of cortex nerve (?)
    One drachm of powdered (?)weed
    " " " nutmegs
    made up with syrup of lemons
    The patient was to taste "the bigness of a nutmeg" three or four times a day while the ague lasted.
