  1. In a certain house in Stradone, rats were a terrible menace to the household The owner of the house tried everything to banish them but failed. He was told then, that a very old woman, who lived in the district, was known to have the power of banishing rats or "billetting" them as the old people called it. The old woman was asked by the owner of the house to billet the rats from it. She consented to act, and from the following day, the rats were seen to stand and look across the threshold, but dare not go inside. No one ever knew how the charm was worked, but as soon as the old woman died, the rats came back again.
