James Maguire went to the door to call him. The dog stood in front of him and he was unable to shout. He took for home and a short distance from the blacksmiths house, he crossed a running stream and the dog disappeared.
When James Maguire went into his own house he fainted, and it was some time before he came to.
As he said himself, he took great care to not stop late on his ceidhle afterwards.
