  1. Everywhere throughout this country birds are very plentiful. The principal ones found in this district are thruses, blackbirds,robins, wrens, larks, crows, magpies, chaffinches, wild ducks, water hens, and pigeons. In Summer there are also cuckoos, corncrakes and swallows to be found. None of these migrate except the cuckoo, the corncrake and the swallows. Before they go some signs are apparent to herald their departure. Before they leave the swallows gather in noisy flocks on the wires and then they fly off together. The cuckoo's voice gets shaky and she does not sing so often.
    All these birds build nests except the cuckoo. She is a lazy bird and she lays her eggs in another bird's
