- In older times people used many different kinds of homemade bread. this was mostly made from wheat, corn, oats or potatoes grown locally. Few people in this district remember when querns were in use but it is supposed that one was found in O'Hagan's fort about two miles from the town. It was going to be sent to the Irish Exhibition in Dublin but it is believed the fairies came and took it away.
The various kinds of bread made long ago were potato cake locally know as "flannel bread", boxty, oaten meal bread and corn bread(continues on next page)- Collector
